Festival Salju Sapporo

Festival Salju Sapporo (さっぽろ雪まつり,Sapporo Yuki Matsuri^?) adalah festival salju terbesar di Jepang yang diadakan di kotaSapporo, Hokkaido. Festival ini dilangsungkan selama seminggu pada awal bulan Februari.Setiap tahunnya sekitar dua juta wisatawan dari dalam negeri dan luar negeri berkunjung ke Sapporo selama berlangsungnya festival.

Sejak tahun 2006, festival ini diadakan di tiga lokasi: Taman Odori, Susukino, dan Sapporo Satoland. Di lokasi Taman Odori dipamerkan ukiran es dan salju berukuran sangat besar, termasuk pahatan es berbentuk miniatur bangunan terkenal.Pameran ukiran es yang lebih kecil diadakan di Susukino, sementara acara untuk keluarga diadakan di Sapporo Satoland.

Sejarah

Festival pertama Festival salju Sapporo pertama kali diselengarakan tahun 1950 oleh dinas pariwisata Sapporo dan pemerintah kota Sapporo, dengan sponsor surat kabar lokal Hokkai Times. Di Sapporo sebenarnya pernah dilangsungkan berbagai festival salju, namun terhenti sewaktu Perang Dunia II.

Ide membuat patung dari salju diambil dari festival salju yang diadakan tahun 1935 oleh murid-murid sebuah SD di kotaOtaru. Festival yang pertama bermodalkan 6 buah patung salju buatan siswa SMP dan SMU kota Sapporo, ditambah festival salju di depan stasiun Hokkaido yang diadakan Japanese National Railways (sekarang disebut JR). Festival dimeriahkan dengan kontes, senam, perlombaan, tari, dan pemutaran film.

Perkembangan Pada festival salju yang pertama, tinggi patung dibatasi hingga 7 meter. Di festival ke-4 (1953), batasan tinggi dihapus dan siswa sekolah menengah kejuruan kota Hokkaido membangun ukiran es yang tingginya 15 meter. Salju yang diperlukan berjumlah sangat banyak hingga perlu bantuan pinjaman truk dan buldoser dari pemerintah kota Hokkaido. Sejak itu, pemerintah kota Hokkaido selalu meminjamkan alat-alat berat sehingga bisa dibangun ukiran es dan salju berskala besar.

Pada festival ke-5 (1954) mulai ikut dipamerkan patung salju sumbangan penduduk kota. Festival yang ke-6 (1955) ditandai dengan makin banyaknya peserta. Bangunan dalam berbagai bentuk yang dibuat pasukan bela diri Jepang, perusahaan swasta, pemerintah kota, dan berbagai sponsor mulai ditata rapi.

Sejak sekitar festival ke-10 (1959), wisatawan dari luar Hokkaido mulai banyak yang datang untuk melihat festival salju Sapporo. Festival tahun 1972 diadakan bersamaan dengan penyelenggaraan olimpiade musim dingin tahun 1972 dan ikut diperkenalkan di luar negeri. Sejak itu, festival ini mulai dijadikan tujuan oleh wisatawan asing. Sejak tahun 1974, festival dimeriahkan lomba internasional seni pahat es dan salju yang diikuti seniman pemahat dari berbagai kota besar di dunia.

Lokasi pameran patung es di Susukino berasal dari acara lokal yang diadakan pertama kali tahun 1981, dan baru menjadi bagian festival salju Sapporo di tahun 1983. Dari festival ke-41 (tahun 1990) hingga festival ke-42 (tahun 1992), festival salju Sapporo pernah dilangsungkan di 4 lokasi, tapi lokasi ke-4 ditutup karena sedikitnya jumlah pengunjung dan ukiran salju yang dipamerkan.

            Lagu Goodbye Days ini merupakan single ke 5 yang khusus di buat oleh YUI untuk film Midnight Sun (Taiyou no Uta) yang dibintangi sendiri olehnya, rilis di Jepang pada tanggal 17 Juni 2006 (lagunya sendiri dirilis tanggal 14 Juni). Dalam film ini YUI berperan sebagai Amane Kaoru, gadis 16 tahun yang mengidap penyakit kulit  xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), yaitu penyakit yang kalau terkena radiasi ultraviolet atau cahaya matahari membuat kulit penderitanya meleput (kayak vampir itu lho…), atau bahkan mati (nah lho…!). Pada akhirnya Kaoru (YUI) mati juga
